SINGAPORE AIRLINES AND TOURISM MALAYSIA SIGNED MEMORANDUM OF THE FIRST MARKETING COLLABORATION

Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Tourism Malaysia signed a memorandum of co-marketing, the first such agreement between the two organizations to promote tourist arrivals in Malaysia.

The partnership, which lasts two years, was signed during the 2016 edition of the ITB fair in Berlino and was signed by the Hon. Dato ‘Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, H..E. Dato ‘Zulkifli Adnan, Ambassador of Malaysia in Germany and H.E. Jai S Sohan, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore in Germany. The agreement will enter into force from 1 April 2016 and will include a joint activity of the partners to explore, develop and promote tourist traffic to Malaysia through Singapore airport from 14 core markets, through the services of Singapore Airlines and SilkAir .

Singapore Airlines and Tourism Malaysia, among the many initiatives planned, will cooperate in advertising and promotional campaigns, as well as familiarization programs for professionals in the travel industry and media.

Datuk Seri Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, said: “Tourism Malaysia is proud to work with Singapore Airlines to make it even more accessible the various tourist attractions of Malaysia, just a few hours flight from Singapore. SIA and SilkAir currently operate a total of 111 flights a week from Singapore to five destinations in Malaysia.

Tourism Malaysia

The Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board and Tourism Malaysia is an agency of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia. Tourism Malaysia focuses on specific activities to promote Malaysia at all levels. From the beginning, Tourism Malaysia has experienced strong growth and has positioned itself among the leading actors on the stage of international tourism. In 2014, Malaysia has recorded 27.4 million tourist arrivals with a turnover of 72 billion (Malaysian Ringgit), making tourism the second largest source of foreign earnings.

Through the Tourism NKEA (National Key Economic Area) it has been strengthened collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Tourism Malaysia, other Government agencies and the private sector, to help to bring to Malaysia a leading position in the tourism and achieve ‘target of 36 million tourist arrivals and a turnover of 168 billion (Malaysian Ringgit) by 2020.

The target set by Tourism NKEA will be achieved through the implementation of 12 Entry Point Projects (EPPS) grouped into five themes: affordable luxury; nature and adventure; family fun; events, entertainment, spa and sports and business tourism.
